DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY subject statement of intent

He has filled them with skill to do every sort of work done by an engraver or by a designer or by an embroiderer in blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen, or by a weaver—by any sort of workman or skilled designer. Exodus 35:35

At Freckleton Church of England Primary School, we take great pride in ensuring that we provide a rich and varied curriculum supported by educational visits, outdoor experiences, practical learning and computing.

We cover a range of different topics including food, textiles, structural design, mechanisms and electrical systems; children are provided with a ‘real life’ context for their learning. They are encouraged to actively participate in creative and interactive lessons where they are given the opportunities to take a ‘hands on’ approach when researching, designing, making and modifying products that are aimed at specific individuals or groups.

Design Technology is taught by teachers or Higher Level Teaching Assistants and is well resourced across school. We ensure that the children have access to a wide variety of materials allowing them to create inventive and appealing products that are fit for purpose.

We believe that Design Technology is important to help our children become creative problem solvers and innovative risk-takers both individually and as part of a team. Our intent is to help our children become life-long learners that can contribute to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of the modern world and workplace.
