Science Subject Statement of Intent

How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!

 Proverbs 16:16

At Freckleton Church of England Primary School, we pride ourselves on delivering a rich and varied Science curriculum supported by practical experiments, educational visits and outdoor activities. We cover a range of topics outlined in the National Curriculum 2014 in creative and interactive lessons where the children are 'hands on'. Children are encouraged to ask and answer scientific questions, plan and carry out scientific investigations and evaluate evidence and present their conclusions clearly and accurately. They learn about life processes of living things, the properties of materials and the physical processes of electricity, light, sound, natural forces and the nature of the solar system. Our Science curriculum is supported in Key stage 1 by regular 'welly walks' to study the changes in nature through the seasons. We foster a love of the outdoors and strive to develop a natural curiosity and inquisitive nature. Science is supported by the Life Education Bus which delivers age appropriate and relevant teaching sessions on the areas of our bodies, health and well-being and areas of PSHE curriculum.
