Forest School

Outdoor learning plays a huge role across the curriculum and across all Key Stages at Freckleton. Children enjoy timetabled weekly outdoor learning sessions, using all of our amazing outdoor spaces around the school. Children thoroughly enjoy ‘Empty Classroom Day’, a day when staff plan all lessons outdoors, such as gymnastics on the field, messy science on the playground, practical maths activities and making and listening to sounds. Children say this is the best day ever!!!

Freckleton’s Fabulous Forest, officially opened in July 2016, is a huge asset to the school and offers the children a range of experiences, from den building and pond dipping, to lighting fires and cooking. Qualified Forest School Leaders run forest school sessions on a regular basis with all children, enabling them to explore the environment, learn new skills and to try a range of new experiences. Engagement levels are high and, aside from practical skills, they practise collaboration, including offering praise and encouragement to others, resilience and perseverance, all of which are so important during more formal teaching.
