ENGLISH subject statement of intent

"Planted in the house of the Lord, they shall flourish in the courts of our God." Psalm 92:13

At Freckleton Church of England Primary School we aim to develop pupil's abilities within an integrated programme of speaking and listening, reading and writing.  Pupils will become primary literate by being able to read and write with confidence, fluency and understanding.  They will have an interest in books and choose to read for enjoyment.  They develop a growing vocabulary and show an interest in learning and using new words.  They are able to understand a range of text types and genres, writing in a variety of styles and forms, appropriate to the situation.  Children develop their powers of imagination, by being inventive and critically aware, able to self monitor and correct their own work.  Pupils are given opportunities to interrelate the requirements of English within a broad and balanced curriculum, with high expectations set and opportunities to consolidate and reinforce skills in all areas of the curriculum.
